When and where does this event take place? The WALK of HOPE + 5K RUN is Sunday, August 5, 2018 in Southampton, NY.  Day-of Registration and Check-in begins at 7:45 am in front of The Cultural Center. The Walk/Run starts at 9 am sharp! Get directions here.

What does '5K' mean? This is a timed, USA Track & Field sanctioned event.  '5K' is the distance of the course, approximately 3.1 miles  You can walk or run and the course travels around beautiful Lake Agawam. Only those participating as RUNNERS will receive timing chips so that their individual times can be recorded.

Will there be awards? Yes!  We will have a small awards ceremony beginning at 10:30 am. Awards will be given to the top fundraiser and top fundraising team (captain) as well as the top male and female runners in the following age categories:

  • 14 and under
  • 15-19;
  • 20-29;
  • 30-39;
  • 40-49;
  • 50-59;
  • 70-79;
  • 80 & over


How can I participate? You can particpate as a WALKER, RUNNER, or VIRTUAL RUNNER or a VOLUNTEER.  Click the HOME tab above to get started! What is a VIRTUAL RUNNER? A VIRTUAL RUNNER is a great opportunity for someone who is unable to attend the race on August 5th, but who wants to help HDRF raise funds for advanced depression research. Can we register the day of the event? Yes, you can register the day of the event. However, we highly encourage you to sign up online prior ro the event to avoid long lines. 

Is the run/walk canceled if it rains? The WALK of HOPE + 5K RUN will occur RAIN or SHINE!!

Where do I park? Due to the anticipated attendance, please arrive with plenty of time to find parking. Parking is available on certain streets surrouding The Cultural Center and across from Lake Agawam Park as well as multiple parking lots in downtown Southampton. Parking signage and uniformed Southampton Police Officers will be available to direct you as needed on event day.

Are strollers allowed? Strollers are allowed.  We request that those running or walking with strollers line up toward the back of the crowd at the starting line. 

Are dogs allowed? Dogs are allowed at the event. We ask that your dog be kept on a short leash at all times.  We request that those who are running or walking with their dog line up toward the back of the crowd at the starting line, to prevent other walkers/runners from tripping over your dog or leash. Keep in mind that there will be a large crowd and many children, if your pet is unaccustomed to either.

I have already registered, but now I want to join a team or change my team. How do I do this?   If you have already registered yourself, please call us at 212.676.3208 or email us events@hopefordepression.org. Let us know the name of the team you would like to join and we will add you.

I have already registered as a walker, but now I want to change to a runner (or vice versa). How do I do this? If you would like to change your participation type, please call us at 212.676.3208 or email us at events@hopefordepression.org. 

Do I have to fundraise or can I just participate in the walk/run? It is not required to fundraise or seek donations to paricipate in this event; however, you are welcome to do so and we will try to make it easy for you. Check out our Fundraising Tips here.

How do we submit cash registrations or donations? You can pay cash to register or make a donation at the event on Saturday. Day-of Registration is from 7:45 am to 8:45 am and donation boxes will be available onsite.*

How do we submit check registrations or donations?  You can print the Registration Form and mail it along with your check(s) to Hope for Depression Research Foundation, 40 W. 57th St., Suite 1440, New York, NY 10019.*

*Make sure the team name or participant name accomapnies the cash or check(s) to ensure it is credited to the correct person/team.
